Instagram has unveiled a new feature designed to enhance user interaction within its Stories. This latest update permits followers to comment on each other’s Stories, fostering a community-driven experience reminiscent of livestreaming, where users can participate in more extensive discussions.
A number of users, including marketing strategist Taylor Loren (@taylor.loren on Threads), have already noticed this feature in action. Additionally, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared a screenshot through the company’s Channel, highlighting its introduction.
For users concerned about their privacy, Instagram will provide the option to disable comments on their Stories as needed.
This development seems to stem from observed user behavior, with Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, noting that the Stories format ranks as one of the app’s most popular features—more frequently utilized than content shared on the main feed. The platform continues to prioritize private messaging, with many users gravitating towards closed groups for friend interactions.
Adding public comments to Stories aligns with Instagram’s strategy to boost engagement on the platform. Recent enhancements have also included the ability to add music to profiles, alongside the advent of the new “Reveal” feature that allows users to hide Stories, granting visibility only after a follower sends a direct message.
