With the NFL and college football (NCAAF) seasons on the horizon, Apple has unveiled exciting updates for its specialized sports app. Among these, the introduction of Live Activities for all leagues stands out, alongside a new ‘dynamic drive tracker’ for an immersive game visualisation, and detailed play-by-play support for football enthusiasts.
Since its launch in February, Apple Sports has catered to sports aficionados by offering instantaneous updates, scores, and comprehensive statistics across 15 leading leagues, such as NCAA basketball, MLS, MLB, NBA, WNBA, NHL, Premier League, among others. Recently, it expanded its support to include the NFL and NCAAF just in time for the new season.
The upcoming Live Activities feature, which is set to accompany iOS 18 and watchOS 11 this autumn, promises to revolutionize how users engage with live scores. By simply glancing at their lock screens, users can stay abreast of live scores and play-by-play updates, a feature that will be seamlessly integrated from the Apple TV app to the Sports app with the new iOS release.
The ‘dynamic drive tracker’ offers an innovative way for fans to track the movement of the ball on the field in real-time, enhancing the game watching experience. This feature, along with updated betting odds and comprehensive play-by-play analyses, ensures an unparalleled experience for NFL and college football followers.
Apple has also refined its live play-by-play feature to provide a more detailed account of football matches. A specially designed filter highlights scoring drives, guaranteeing that users don’t miss key moments. Future updates will introduce a simplified drop-down navigation for main scorecard views and improved search capabilities. With the addition of Champions League and Europa League during their league phases in September, more excitement is in store.
Currently available in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada, Apple Sports is set to bring a new level of engagement to sports fans, especially with the impending football seasons.
